‘I’ve got the word midwife written through my middle’

Not me, obviously, though it’s a profession that has always appealed. This article from The Guardian about Lynne Leyshon really brightened my Saturday morning.

RIP Laptop

Filed under: Working At Home — victoria @ 02:07 pm

AAAAAAAAAARGH!  Complete disaster this week, I saw the blue screen of death on my laptop, and restarted it only to receive a hal.dll error which all my computer geek friends tell me means DOOM. :(

Luckily we’ve managed to rescue most important things from the hard drive (well, I say ‘we’ but actually I mean Paul at www.pcconsulting.co.uk) and a system reinstall may still resurrect it, but it’s been pretty stressful.

I can still access my back-end (of the website that is) but processing orders is a slow and painful process, and I’m even having to do address labels by hand!  AND of course this had to happen in holidays with both girls at home bouncing off walls because it’s raining AGAIN.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!

And did I already say, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!

So, please be patient if e-mails go unanswered, or orders are a bit slower than usual.

The WAHM blues

Filed under: Working At Home — victoria @ 12:14 pm

Working from home is a lonely business sometimes, I miss the banter and gossip of working in a busy office.  It’s hard to keep motivated without other people to bounce ideas around with (or steal ideas from! :P).  So I’m really glad to have found a couple of online WAHM websites and forums.  It’s great to chat to other people in the same position, who understand the frustrations of trying to squeeze a business in around your kids, and feeling like you’re neglecting everyone.  :(

Customer reviews are really important in helping people choose which products to buy for their baby. If you’ve used a product I sell (even if you didn’t buy it from me) why not write a review?
If you visit the product page on my site, and click on the ‘Reviews’ button, it will give you the option to write a review. It needn’t be long or complicated, and honesty is welcome!
As a thank you, anyone who writes a review will have a 10% discount voucher emailed to them.

Going whizzy

Neil (my wonderful other half) and I are working on ideas to jazz up the website.  We’re busy designing new buttons, banners, and other bits and pieces - it’s lots of fun but also frustrating and time consuming.  Hopefully we’ll be able to add some functionality (that’s Neil) as well as good looks (me :D)!  We’re looking at a live help function, newsletter sign up, and photo gallery.

I’m addicted!  When a friend first introduced me I just couldn’t see the point, but a few weeks in I’m hooked!  Still not entirely sure what the point is though.  I’ve never let that hold me back before though, so I’ve set up my very own Baby Bean group  - come and join me!

Nappies are Back

Filed under: Working At Home, Baby Bean News & Offers — victoria @ 10:32 am

Hurray!  I’ve teamed up with Miranda at Twinkleontheweb to enable me to continue to offer cloth nappies at Baby Bean, without the problems of maintaining stock levels.  Miranda will be dropshipping some of my orders for me, if I don’t have stock of a particular item.  This means customers should not have delays on their orders, and I can offer a full range of styles, sizes, and fastenings.
